results in the ability to see and enter the Kingdom of God (3:3, 5). When Nicodemus expresses amazement (3:9), Jesus responds with the words, ‘If I have spoken earthly things to you and you have not believed, how will you believe if I speak heavenly things to you?’ (3:12). The implication here in verse 12 is that Nicodemus is not able to believe. This new ability is provided by the new birth from above by the Spirit (John 3:3, 5).
