Recent studies of trauma survivors help us understand Naomi’s behavior, state of mind, and sense of identity. As Erikson suggests, those who have experienced trauma reckon life’s chances differently and see the world through a different lens. Indeed, they “experience not only a changed sense of self and a changed way of relating to others but a changed worldview.”13
