C. F. Walther said, “The Word of God is not rightly divided when the person teaching it does not allow the Gospel to have a general predominance in his teaching” (The Proper Distinction between Law and Gospel, St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1928, p. 403). The law can’t get you an inch closer to God’s glory! Therefore the real object of glory in this text isn’t the old covenant, but the new covenant, which far outshines it. The preacher will want to give it the predominance it deserves.
