Christians have always recognized that sin is part of the human condition. The New Testament portrays it in several ways—such as a force that captures the human mind and will, a blindness that prevents us from seeing things as they really are, and guilt resulting from a failure to act properly. Although ‘sin’ is sometimes used in the sense of ‘an individual action’ (as we saw above), the New Testament tends to think of it primarily as a condition that leads to the commission of sin. We are slaves
