1 THE DEUTERONOMISTIC HISTORY The Former Prophets 1 AND 2 SAMUEL are placed in the prophetic division of the tripartite Hebrew canon (cf. Lk. 24:44), being reckoned together with Joshua, Judges, and Kings as ‘The Former Prophets’.
