The Lord is powerfully glorified by Christians who have past grievances against other groups who lay those grievances down in the life of the church. Doing so requires that we refuse to embrace the “shame culture” that proliferates in our time and that we, instead of shaming one another, forgive one another. Forgiveness speaks a better word than shame. We think here of the Jews and Gentiles who shared church membership in the first century. No doubt many of them had ample reason to hate their counterparts;
