Although evangelism is a part of the wedding sermon, it is not the focus. Instead, our task is to direct the couple to their commitment to God and each other. We can explore practical elements of everyday marital behavior, commitment, and other features of the Christian life and emphasize that the couple’s only hope is found in God in Christ and the mystery of being one in him. Through the preacher’s instructions, others (the congregation) “overhear” what it means to follow Christ as a married couple.
