People of the Spirit examines Luke’s understanding of the Church as found in both his Gospel and the Book of Acts. Topics such as Luke’s view of salvation, worship of Jesus amongst the first Christians, Pentecost, mission and the structure of the early church are examined in order to challenge the contemporary church to remain true to the Gospel.

Immediately before the coming of the Spirit Luke says Matthias ‘was added to the eleven apostles’, restoring their full number (1:26). Narratively, Luke has prepared (or repaired) the twelve, the embryonic people of God to receive Pentecost. Then, immediately after the coming of the Spirit, Peter is said to stand ‘with the eleven’ to give an eschatological interpretation of the Spirit’s arrival (2:14, 17).
