The (in)sight of Jesus opens a constricted situation to new horizons and possibilities. As the fishermen washed silt and weeds from the nets, Jesus stepped into the boat of Simon and asked him to push back from the shore. Jesus had healed the mother-in-law of Simon shortly before (4:38–39) and was not unknown to him. In asking a favor of Simon, Jesus frees him of any debt he may feel toward Jesus for the healing.
