When he left the Thessalonians to share the gospel elsewhere, the apostle Paul feared that these Christians would be overwhelmed by false teachers, persecution, and temptations. He wrote two letters to encourage them to remain faithful. These letters offer rich hope and remain good reading for Christians faced with challenges to their faith.

“those who fall asleep,” since the Thessalonians were “ignorant” in this area. The Antichrist was not such a doctrine; they knew about it before Paul wrote. He had shared it with them during his stay in Thessalonica. Obviously, then, this was not a doctrine only for advanced Christian knowledge. And it surely is not to be classed as one of the “problems” of theology and the Bible, as many suggest today.
