Anders Runesson examines the question of terminology for constructions of Paul as well as of Judaism. He focuses on two terms, “Christianity” and its cognates, and “church,” although the implications of his methodological and related considerations for approaching historical information extend to many other terms and topics. Runesson recognizes that the way these titles have been used has served later Christian interests, yet observes that they are inadequate for the historical task of interpreting
