This philosophy is dependent on the biblical purposes of the church, which are exalting the Lord, evangelizing the world, and edifying the church’s members. The pastor plays the leading role in helping the church implement these purposes. Eph. 4:7–16 and Col. 1:28–29 provide good guidelines for accomplishing these goals in a local church.
