Prophecy is a psychic gift that in many cultures has been harnessed to religion. Even now Protestant and Catholic charismatic groups practice it, in addition to Pentecostal denominations. According to the NT, the church was “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets” (Eph 2:20; cf. 3:5; 4:11).
