The use of these chapters of Zechariah presents a striking contrast to the situation with respect to the Suffering Servant. Whereas the Servant Songs are referred to mainly through allusions, each of the major verses in Zechariah 9–14 is explicitly quoted. And whereas the use of the Servant conception is confined mainly to sayings of Jesus, the evangelists seem to be more enamored of the Zechariah texts than does Jesus.
