There are nine imperatives listed in these two verses: wash, clean, remove, cease, learn, seek, correct, bring, and plead. In the previous section, in verses 10–15, Isaiah told us what God does not want, and that is empty worship, worship that may adhere to the technicalities of the ritual system but without the heart.
