evangelists, placed the major emphasis on the passion and resurrection narratives. These were the main subjects of early Christian preaching, of which Theophilus had apparently already been informed (1:4). But Luke aimed to describe the happenings which led up to the passion. There have been claims that Luke’s purpose was dominated by a theological motive.1 In this kind of theory Luke is said to have had a different theological approach from his sources, and his own modifications are then regarded
