the Acrocorinth, the great hill of Corinth, on which a temple to Aphrodite stood. Today you can see ruins of a Roman fortress that came slightly later. But in Paul’s day, people went there to worship the goddess and to seek union with her through the so-called priests or priestesses, the sexual orientation of their choice, who were little more than prostitutes. There was also a small Jewish synagogue, and we read in Scripture about a Jewish presence in Corinth also. A modern parallel that has been suggested
