Eighty percent of the 5,500 or so manuscripts we have—80 percent of the manuscript material—belongs to this family. Now, you might think that sort of wins the debate as to which tradition scholars should follow in reconstructing the text of the NT, again, for the sake of having a NT and translating it. But it actually doesn’t because this family is also very late. It’s medieval. All of this material is really fifth-century and more recent, whereas the Alexandrian family is the oldest material, the
