Luke focuses not so much on parables of the kingdom or the nature of the kingdom or even on controversy as Jesus does. They certainly aren’t missing, but Jesus’ parables in Luke focus on the question, how should one live in the kingdom of God? What’s the shape of discipleship? Now, the context of this first parable, the Good Samaritan, is mission. Jesus has sent out not just the 12 but 72 disciples, and the power of the kingdom has been shown.
