Tetragram (יהוה, yhwh), the word for “name” in the singular (שֵׁם, s̊ēm) was occasionally employed as a sufficient representation in itself of his titles and name, as in Leviticus 24:11: “The Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the Name” (see also Exod. 20:7; Ps. 76:2). “In such cases ‘the name’ stands for the whole manifestation of God in His relation to His people, or simply for the person, so that it becomes synonymous with God.”17
