UNION WITH CHRIST In connection with the discussion on effectual calling, I urged that through faith in Christ the sinner who was chosen “in Christ” from all eternity is actually united to Christ. This comports with the Shorter Catechism statement that “the Spirit applieth to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us, and thereby uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling” (Question 30), and provides the rationale for treating our union with Christ at this point in the ordo.
