THE NEW JEWISH VERSION (NJV) The first of the translations is a distinctly Jewish publication. In 1955 the Jewish Publication Society of America appointed a committee of seven scholars to prepare a new English translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, the first such translation to be sponsored by the Society since 1917.
