growing in God’s grace by consciously depending on His resources and by growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, by getting more intimately acquainted with Him each day (see 1:5–8). The greatest goal for the Christian should be to glorify Jesus Christ, and Peter’s final words focused his readers’ attention anew on that ultimate priority. While the Holy Spirit causes growth to take place in the Christian’s life, we should never conclude that growth is automatic. Peter commanded his readers to grow.
