way you came” is a fairly common Old Testament way of saying “be different” or “avoid past mistakes.”35 So far the prophet has been obedient. He has heard God’s word, opposed the king, and rebuffed Jeroboam’s not-so-subtle bribe. Therefore he embodies the ideal of a prophet who stands for truth against those who pervert it.36 13:11–19 At this point a third important character enters the story. A “certain old prophet” hears of the exploits of the man of God from his sons and rides off to find him.
