Joshua was not instructing Achan to indulge in a disengaged act of glorifying and praising God and then to confess his sin; rather, by his very confession, he was glorifying God. The same wording is found in John 9:24, where the Pharisees spoke these words—“Give glory to God”—in urging a blind man whom Jesus had healed to tell the truth (and, in their minds, by doing so, he would have needed to confess his sin of lying when he claimed that Jesus had healed him). 7:20–21
