We begin by considering how we can know God and what the limits of our knowledge are. God is infinite in majesty, as David confessed: “you are exalted as head above all” (1 Chron. 29:11). We human beings are on earth: “For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding” (v. 15). God’s thoughts are above ours: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
