New Testament Verb: ἀναφέρω (anapherō), GK 429 (S 399), 10×. anapherō is used 2× in the NT with the meaning “to bear,” referring to sins. Both times it refers to Christ’s bearing the sins “of many” (Heb 9:28) “in his body on the tree” (1 Pet. 2:24). The idea is that Christ has “borne” the penalty of sin on himself (cf. Isa 53:11, 12; Mk 10:45). anapherō can also mean “to offer up a sacrifice” (see offer up) or “lead up” (see lead up).
