Plainly Hebrews recognizes differences between the Mosaic covenant and the new covenant. Plainly, too, these differences include a transformation of cultic practices, not least because Jesus is shown to be a legitimate priest in spite of the fact that he comes not from the tribe of Levi, as required by the Mosaic law (see Deut 18:1–5), but from that of Judah (see Heb 7:14; 8:4).
