The scale of God’s reach to humanity is startling. The God who showed up in unexpected forms—like a burning bush (Exod 3) and as a wrestling angel (Gen 32:22–32)—now comes as a suffering servant (Luke 18:31–33; compare Isa 52:13–53:12). The story of the Church is just as astonishing and intense. The Spirit explodes on the scene in Acts 2. The effect is so electric that observers think the disciples are drunk (Acts 2:13). But they are punch-drunk on God, not on wine. God is also at work here and now.
