Another kind of repetition that is frequently used in the OT involves using extra speaking verbs to introduce speeches, such as “he answered and said to him.” We often find this type of repetition in contexts where one of the speakers takes the conversation in a new or unexpected direction. Alternatively, we find them just before an important portion of the speech. We see an example of this kind of repetition in Gen 18 as Abraham intercedes on behalf of Lot. Abraham’s first intercession begins in
