Hittite Literature Overviews the literature of the Hittite Kingdom. This literature exhibits a significant diversity, including forms that were native to Anatolia as well as those exhibiting cross-cultural influence from Mesopotamia. Although it is unlikely that Hittite culture and literature had any direct influence on ancient Israelite and biblical literature, the literary remains of “Hatti,” as the Hittites referred to themselves, provide a significant intellectual backdrop for understanding the Late Bronze Age Mediterranean world—a culture and period that immediately preceded the development of ancient Israel’s culture.
