Stallion (אַבִּיר, abbir). An uncastrated, adult, male horse that is often associated with strength (Jer 8:16; 47:3; 50:11; Judg 5:22; Sirach 33:6). The stallion is predominantly associated with war. Occasionally, translators render other Hebrew words for a horse as “stallion” (see Jer 5:8; Ezek 23:20; Song 1:9). The primary word translated as “stallion” (אַבִּיר, abbir) is used to denote strength or stubbornness in people (1 Sam 21:8; Job 24:22; 34:20; Pss 76:5; 78:25; Isa 46:12; Jer 46:15; Lam 1:15). The word אַבִּיר (abbir) can also refer to bulls (Pss 22:12; 50:13; 68:30; Isa 34:7; Jer 50:11) and to angels (Psa 78:25).
