Sirach, Book Of (Σιραχ, Sirach). Also known as the “Wisdom of Ben Sira,” “Wisdom of Jesus, Son of Sira,” or “Ecclesiasticus” (the Latin Vulgate title). A second-century bc collection of ethical teachings written in poetic verse, much like the book of Proverbs; belongs to the genre of Wisdom literature. Sirach is not in the Hebrew Bible.
