Shemaiah the Prophet (שְׁמַעְיָהוּ, shema'yahu; שְׁמַעְיָה, shema'yah). A prophet during the reign of Rehoboam. Described as a “man of God,” he rebuked Rehoboam for planning to go to war against the northern kingdom of Israel (2 Chr 11:2) and prophesied that Shishak would defeat the kingdom of Judah because Rehoboam had forsaken Yahweh (2 Chr 12:5–7).
