Philip V (Φίλιππος, Philippos). King of Macedonia (221–179 bc). Defeated by the Romans in 197 bc (1 Macc 8:5).

First Maccabees 8:5 briefly mentions Philip V of Macedonia, whose defeat by the Romans in 197 bc at the Battle of Cynoscephalae drastically limited the power and geographical territory of Macedonia. After success in the Social War with the Aetolia, Sparta, and Elis in 217 bc, Philip V’s defeat in 197 bc resulted in him becoming a vassal of Rome (Ferguson, Greek Imperialism, 123–25).
