Paddan-Aram (פַּדָּן אֲרָם, paddan aram). Also known as Paddan. The region around Haran in upper Mesopotamia; Abraham’s family’s place of origin (Gen 25:20; 28:2, 5–7; 31:18; 33:18; 35:9, 26; 46:15; 48:7). The etymology of the name is debated and ultimately unknown. It could be another name for Aram-Naharaim or the name of another town in the region. It is central to the story of Jacob and Laban (Gen 28–31).
