Nergal (נֵרְגַל, neregal). The deity of the underworld who was worshiped by the people of Cuth (2 Kgs 17:30). The god Nergal had widespread influence. An official of the king of Babylon has the word Nergal as part of his name: Nergal-Sharezer (Jer 39:3, 13). Nergal was equated with gods of the underworld and death from other pantheons.
