Merab, Daughter of Saul (מֵרַב, merav). King Saul’s eldest daughter, whom Saul promised in marriage to David but instead gave to Adriel (1 Sam 18:17–19; 14:49; 2 Sam 21:8). Greek accounts such as the Septuagint (specifically Codex Vaticanus) and Josephus’ Antiquities are missing this episode, indicating it may be a secondary account. The Masoretic Text of 2 Sam 21:8 has Michal as the wife of Adriel instead of Merab (see e.g., NKJV, LEB); however, this instance may simply be a scribal error.
