Left Hand In the Old Testament, this term sometimes describes people whose dominant hand was not the right hand. Benjaminites such as Ehud the judge seem to be more often characterized by left-handedness (Judg 3:15; 20:16; 1 Chr 12:2). The Benjamites are also characterized by being ambidextrous and incredible warriors, showing that their propensity toward being left-handed was a strength of the tribe that made them specialists.
The left hand can also represent disfavor in the Bible, contrasting the right hand of favor or strength: Jacob chooses Manasseh for a lesser blessing by putting his left hand on his head. In Jesus’ parable of the sheep and the goats, the people condemned by God (the goats) are separated toward His left hand at judgment (Matt 25:33, 41).
