Land and Property In the Bible and the larger ancient Near East, land was subject to a number of laws and customs that specifically addressed property rights with regard to houses, fields, orchards, and entire villages (Rowe, “Alalakh,” 699; Westbrook, “Old Babylon,” 410). The evidence is predominantly found in law codes, contracts, and letters, and addresses ownership, conveyance, and inheritance.
