Keturah, Wife of Abraham (קְטוּרָה, qeturah). Abraham’s wife after Sarah; mother of six sons (Gen 25:1; 1 Chr 1:32–33). Abraham married Keturah after Sarah’s death (Gen 23:1–2), and likely after the marriage of Isaac (see Gen 24:67; 25:1). First Chronicles 1:32 and Gen 25:6 indicate that Keturah was not considered equal to Sarah—who was the mother of Isaac, the son promised to Abraham. Abraham’s other sons (including Ishmael) were sent away so that they would not threaten Isaac’s inheritance.
