John the Apostle, Critical Issues (Ἰωάννης, Iōannēs).
The Gospel of John, 1–3 John, and Revelation provide internal biblical evidence about John the Apostle. However, these biblical books show differences and similarities in style, vocabulary, and theology that lead to varied conclusions about the identity of the author. There were many people named John in first-century church leadership, which further complicates that matter.
