Humor The quality of being comic or amusing. The idea that the Bible can contain humor is not a universal one. Many would agree with Baudelaire’s assertion that “holy books never laugh.” Although the Bible has a serious message, at times that message is conveyed using tools of humor such as irony, satire, and wordplay. In the Old Testament, there is laughter (צָחַק, tsachaq; Gen 17:17; 21:6) and joking (Gen 19:14), and there are humorous situations throughout the Bible.
