Havilah (חֲוִילָה, chawilah). A region bordered by the Pishon River, where gold could be found (Gen 2:11). Havilah is mentioned two other times in relation to the wilderness of Shur—in Gen 25:18 as a region settled by the Ishmaelites and in 1 Sam 15:7 as a region where Saul defeated the Amalekites. Those references suggest a location in Arabia, but it is unclear whether the Havilah of Genesis 2:11 is the same place.
