Ezekiel the Prophet (יחזקאל, ychzq'l; “May God strengthen”). Judaean priest and prophet taken into exile by the Babylonians in 597 bc. Son of a Zadokite priest named Buzi. Ezekiel expresses familiarity with the Jerusalem temple. Ministry characterized by ecstatic visions, dramatic behavior, graphic depictions of Israel’s sin, and a message of divine judgment and restoration.
