Etham (אֵתָם, etham). A village where the Israelites camped following their departure from Egypt at Succoth.
Etham is described as “on the edge of the desert” (Exod 13:20; Num 33:6). Here the Israelites changed their route (Exod 14:2; Num 33:7), turning south toward Pi-hahiroth. Etham’s precise location is unknown, though some have associated it with the Egyptian city Pithom. The desert region in the vicinity of Etham is called the “wilderness of Etham” in Num 33:8.
