Didascalia, Ethiopian (Ethiopic Didesqelya). A book of church order in the broader canon of the New Testament of the Ethiopian Orthodox church. Attributed apostolic authorship by the Ethiopian Orthodox church but seen as a later work in Western scholarship. This work is not considered part of the biblical canon or otherwise authoritative by any other church.

The Western scholarly view holds that the Ethiopian Didascalia is based on the contents of books 1–7 of the Apostolic Constitutions and was translated from Arabic into the Ethiopic. The Ethiopian Didascalia must be distinguished from the better-known Didascalia Apostolorum, an older work of church order which was written in Greek and formed the source for books 1–6 of the Apostolic Constitutions; the Didascalia Apostolorum is preserved in translations into Syriac and partially into Latin (Gero, “So-Called Ointment Prayer,” 72–73n31).
