Beer-Sheba (בְּאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע, be'er shava'; Tel Sheva; Tell es-Sab’a; modern Tel Be’er Sheva). Principal city of the Negev region of the Levant. Beer-Sheba was founded by the patriarch Abraham and became the capital of the region. In the Old Testament, Beer-Sheba is often mentioned as the southern extent of the Israelite kingdom. It has been occupied sporadically from the Chalcolithic era until modern times.
