Location
The identification of Gibeah with Tell el-Fûl, located on a high ridge about a half-mile north of Jerusalem, is generally accepted. In 1843, Gross identified Tell el-Fûl with Gibeah (Sinclair, “Archaeological Study,” 52). W. F. Albright, who excavated Tell el-Fûl in 1922–23 and 1933, confirmed this identification (Lapp, “Tell el-Fûl,” 2). Alternate opinions include that Tell el-Fûl is biblical Eleph (Edelman, review of Arnold, 701). Gibeah has also been identified (by Edward Robinson in the 1830s) with the village of Jeba (McMillion, review of Arnold, 161).
