Relationship to Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls
The Dead Sea Scrolls excavated at Qumran are traditionally associated with the Essenes. There is some debate regarding whether the community that composed the Dead Sea Scrolls was part of a larger Essene community or even another community altogether. The Qumran community resembles the Essenes the most of the three Jewish sects known from Josephus (i.e., Pharisees, Sadducees, and Essenes), but there are both similarities and differences between the Essene sect and the Qumran community.
